【摘要】:Uraniumandplutoniumoxidescanbeusedasanuclear-reactorfuelintheformofpellets.Inordertobesuitableforuseasanuclearfuelthestartingmaterialmustmeetcertainspecifications,suchasfoundinC757,C833,C753,C776,C1008,orasspecifiedbythepurchaser.Theuraniumand/orplutoniumconcentrationandisotopicabundancesaremeasuredbymassspectrometryfollowingthistestmethod.Theseparatedheavyelementfractionsplacedonmassspectrometricfilamentsmustbeverypure.Thequantityrequireddependsuponthesensitivityoftheinstrumentdetectionsystem.Ifanelectronmultiplierdetectoristobeused,onlyafewnanogramsarerequired.IfaFaradaycupisused,afewmicrogramsareneeded.Chemicalpurityofthesamplebecomesmoreimportantasthesamplesizedecreases,becauseionemissionofthesampleissuppressedbyimpurities.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheconcentrationandisotopiccompositionofuraniumandplutoniuminsolutions.Thepurifieduraniumorplutoniumfromsamplesrangingfromnuclearmaterialstoenvironmentalorbioassaymatricesisloadedontoamassspectrometricfilament.Theisotopicratioisdeterminedbythermalionizationmassspectrometry,theconcentrationisdeterminedbyisotopedilution.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishsafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
